Specialist underwriting agency Fusion Specialty has announced the internal promotion of Samuel Shirley to the dual role of Global Chief Underwriting Officer, M&A and Managing Partner, M&A, with immediate effect.

Shirley joined Fusion as a Senior Partner in 2022, from Aviva. In a release, the MGA said he had been instrumental in launching Fusion Specialty’s UK operation and played a key role in developing the firm’s M&A business and transactional risk portfolio.

In his new role, Shirley will leverage his technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of underwriting practices to support Fusion Specialty’s growth ambitions globally.

Fusion Specialty Co-Founder and Executive Partner, David Rogers, applauded Shirley’s ascent in the company. “Since joining Fusion Specialty UK, Samuel has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership capabilities, and his promotion is richly deserved,” Rogers said. He added that Shirley “is perfectly positioned to help grow our UK and international M&A insurance portfolio,”

Rogers also disclosed that, due to the recent investment from private equity fund Direct Capital into Fusion’s parent company, Pop Group, Fusion would now be exploring opportunities for global expansion through aligned acquisitions.
