HDI Global has appointed Rebecca Kong as head of distribution and strategic partnerships for North Asia, based at its Hong Kong branch, the company announced on LinkedIn. She started in the new role on 28 July.

Kong joins from AIG, where she spent more than 20 years, most recently as deputy general manager of AIG China’s Shenzhen branch, where she oversaw client and broker engagement and reinsurance business, and led the implementation of fintech work and regulatory affairs.

She brings experience across broker engagement, multinational programmes and reinsurance development and in her new role she will work on the insurer’s broker and cedant partnerships and support its growth across North Asia, HDI said.

The appointment follows a series of hires at the Hong Kong branch this year, including Yibo Mo as liability underwriter, Viola Lee as head of claims in June and James Zhan as senior risk engineer.

HDI Global has also been building out North Asia more widely, opening a representative office in Seoul in January to handle local relationships, while underwriting and claims stay with the Hong Kong branch.
