HSBC has elevated Swapan Khanna to Head of Strategy for Global Insurance, the company announced in a statement on LinkedIn.

Hong Kong-based Khanna joined HSBC in 2022 and had been serving as Head of Special Projects and Chief of Staff before the promotion.

In his new role, Khanna will oversee the strategic development of HSBC’s global insurance franchise, which will encompass both organic and inorganic growth strategies, planning, engagement, and the role of Chief of Staff Office, HSBC said in its announcement.

“We are confident that Swapan’s extensive experience and strategic acumen will be instrumental in driving our global insurance business forward,” the insurer added.

On his new appointment, Khanna commented, “I’m honoured to take on the role of Head of Strategy for Global Insurance. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of our insurance franchise as we further strengthen HSBC Life’s position as a leader in the insurance industry.”

Khanna joined HSBC from Prudential Financial, where he served as Vice President, Business Strategy for over five years, according to LinkedIn. Before his tenure at Prudential Financial, Khanna co-founded MAGI Research and Consultants and i-save.com, serving as Co-founder and Director at both firms. Before that, he held the position of Associate Director, Strategy at Aviva Life Insurance.
