Markel International has appointed Weng Joe Wong as a Professional Financial Risks and Cyber Underwriter, the company announced on LinkedIn on Thursday.

Wong is returning to Markel, having first joined the firm in 2021 and remained until 2023 as an Underwriter for Professional and Financial Risks in Southeast Asia. He returns from working at Swiss Re for over a year as a Facultative Casualty Underwriter.

Based in Singapore, Wong will report to Olga Wong, Professional Financial Risks Senior Underwriter, and brings extensive insurance industry experience to his new role, with 15 years spent in Financial Lines underwriting. He previously worked for numerous insurers across Malaysia and Singapore, including DUAL Asia, Allied World, Chubb, Etiqa, and Marsh, among others.

Commenting on his appointment, Olga Wong said: “His return brings fresh energy, strong relationships, and deep technical expertise; all of which will help us grow the business and strengthen the team.”

The appointment comes on the heels of Markel International’s move to restructure its operations from two divisions into five regional businesses.
