Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LM Re) has appointed John Nicholls as casualty underwriting manager for Australia and New Zealand, according to a LinkedIn post by Mark De La Mare, head of Australia/New Zealand at LM Re.

In an internal move within the Liberty Mutual group, Nicholls joins LM Re from Liberty Specialty Markets, where he worked for over 17 years, most recently as assistant vice president and casualty manager for NSW.

He brings more than three decades of insurance industry experience, including 17 years of casualty experience. Before joining the Liberty group, he also worked for AIG, Marsh, and Aon.

De La Mare noted that Nicholls brings “deep technical expertise”, having been involved in complex and technical placements. “John understands the importance of experience, service, and trust that comes from being a valued partner with our brokers and clients,” De La Mare said.

The move follows other recent senior appointments across the Group in Asia-Pacific, including Liberty’s appointment of Jimmy Tong as CEO for Singapore earlier this month, and Liberty Specialty Markets’ hiring of Edrick Tang as senior underwriter, fine art and specie, Asia-Pacific, in January.
