Alongside launching Miller Korea Monday, the speciality (re)insurance broker announced that ex-Marsh Korea CEO David Kim would lead its operations, with Andrew Kim, Youngkum Yoon, and Tae Hoon Kim also joining in key roles.

David Kim joins Miller Korea as Country Head. He has extensive local market and industry experience, having served in key leadership positions across the insurance sector, including his time at Marsh.

He joined Miller from All Car Korea, where he was Chief Strategy Officer. Earlier in his career, he established Johnson and Higgins Korea, which Marsh later acquired. He also spent a decade working in the investment industry, including at Morgan Stanley Japan.

Ron Whyte, Miller’s Head of Asia, said David Kim “is highly respected and well-known in the Korean insurance market, and I can think of no one better qualified to lead Miller’s push into the region as we continue to expand the scope and reach of our market-leading specialist capabilities.”

Talking about his new role, David Kim said he had been “struck” by Miller’s aspirations in Asia.

“Having worked in Korea for over 20 years, I know there is a huge opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the team to grow our presence in the region,” he adds.

The other executives announced Monday all have wide-ranging insurance and Korea-specific expertise.

Andrew Kim moved from AmTrust where he last served as CEO. In his new role he will Head up Miller Korea’s Affinity Team with the additional responsibility of managing the business’s insurer relationships. He brings 25 years of experience to his new role and experience in senior and leadership positions at several companies including Hanwha General Insurance, Chubb, Marsh and Lockton.

Youngkum Yoon brings 23 years of experience to the new role as Head of Finance and Operations. She moved from Assurant Korea, where she was Finance Director.

Tae Hoon Kim joined Miller Korea to lead its Retail and P&C Teams and joins after eight years with Aon, where he was Director focused on large P&C clients in the energy, property and casualty sectors.

The announcement of the new positions highlights Miller’s focus on Asia, “which remains a cornerstone of our ambitious international growth objectives,” said the company’s Head of Asia Ron Whyte.

Ahead of Miller’s official announcement, Whyte and Kim spoke to (Re)in Asia about what the speciality (re)insurance broker sees as opportunities in the market, highlighting marine, shipbuilding, and energy as key lines of business, alongside the potential to serve the country’s sports and entertainment industry.
