OneDegree has promoted Emily Chow to Chief Executive and Executive Director following her role in leading the Hong Kong virtual insurer to its first full-year profit, the company announced on Monday.

Chow joined OneDegree as general manager in 2022 and was appointed deputy chief executive a year later. Under her leadership, OneDegree has achieved an impressive sixfold increase in revenue in four years, the company said.

In January this year, the Hong Kong virtual insurer announced its first full-year profit, in 2025, becoming the first of the city’s four virtual insurers to turn profitable. The company’s revenue rose 38% year on year to HK$330m (US$42.32m), while operating costs were “similar” to the prior year.

The company credited Chow with helping drive operational and business growth through technology and product innovation.

“From consolidating our market-leading position in pet insurance to expanding our general portfolio with pioneering, market-first offerings and extension to the pet ecosystem with eShop and App & IoT products, her impact on our strategic growth has been profound,” the company said.

Before joining OneDegree, Chow served as managing director and head of marketing and corporate communications at Airstar Bank and was previously chief marketing officer at WeLab Bank. She brings more than 20 years of experience in financial services across AIA, FWD and Prudential Life and over a decade in fintech leadership.

OneDegree said the appointment reflects its commitment to diversity and non-traditional leadership pathways, noting that Chow helped lead the insurer to profitability despite not coming from a traditional insurance background.

The company said it expects Chow to continue driving the adoption of artificial intelligence and automation while strengthening its customer-centric strategy and operational efficiency.
