Petros Papanikolaou is set to be appointed Chief Executive Officer for Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS) and Allianz Commercial from January 1 2024, pending regulatory approval.
He will succeed Joachim Müller, who will depart the business on December 31 to pursue other opportunities.
Papanikolaou has been with Allianz for 25 years, most recently as Allianz’s CEO of Central Europe since 2015. Prior, he was CEO of Allianz Hellas from 2004 to 2015 and his previous experience includes managerial positions across Life, Sales, and Property & Casualty functions.
Chris Townsend, member of the Allianz SE Board of Management, praised the incoming CEO, commenting, “With his broad international leadership experience across the P&C business, combined with his proven track record of execution, Petros Papanikolaou will be able to fully implement and drive our global integrated strategy for the benefit of Allianz Commercial customers and partners.”
Adding that under Papanikolaou’s tenure, the Central Europe region is expected to achieve EUR 1bn for the current year.
Townsend also extended gratitude towards the outgoing Müller, who is credited with the successful turnaround of ACGS as well as the launch of Allianz Commercial.
