Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Alan James as assistant general manager and head of distribution for New Zealand, the insurer announced in a LinkedIn post.
James joins Zurich with more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. Prior to the appointment, he spent over eight years at American International Group (AIG), where he most recently served as head of client and broker engagement for New Zealand.
During his tenure at AIG, James also held roles including Asia-Pacific head of aerospace – general insurance and regional underwriting manager in Singapore. Earlier in his career, he worked at Marsh as a client executive focused on aerospace and reinsurance business.
“Alan’s appointment represents a strategic investment in the New Zealand market,” Zurich said in the announcement, adding that his leadership would support the insurer’s ambitions to deepen broker relationships and expand its market presence locally.
The appointment follows a series of leadership changes across Zurich’s Asia-Pacific commercial insurance business, including Kin Lee’s promotion to head of energy for Asia-Pacific and Giles Crowley’s appointment to the newly created role of head of customer and distribution management for Asia-Pacific.
