Swiss Re has promoted Torben Swart as managing director and head of technical and operational excellence for APAC ex-China, a newly created role, effective 1 August. In addition, he will serve as head of Swiss Re’s Hong Kong branch.
Swart has been with the reinsurer for over a decade and currently serves as Head of L&H for Hong Kong and Taiwan. He has previously held several leadership roles at Swiss Re across Asia and Europe. Before joining the reinsurer, he spent more than seven years at McKinsey & Company.
“In his new role, Torben will help drive underwriting excellence, strengthen operational capabilities, and support the continued growth and resilience of our business,” Tamas Brown, head of Life & Health APAC (ex-China), said.
The appointment comes as Swiss Re continues to strengthen its leadership in the region with recent appointments, including Anna Ziswiler as Head of P&C Re for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea in April, as well as the promotions of Yusuke Matsumoto to head of facultative reinsurance APAC, and Hazel Etherington’s return to the business as head of underwriting for Hong Kong, Taiwan and global high net worth.
