QBE has appointed Callum O’Brien as head of P&I, Asia, the business announced on Monday.
Based in Singapore, O’Brien will be responsible for the performance and development across Asia of British Marine’s P&I portfolio—QBE’s fixed-premium P&I provider for owners of small and specialist vessels—reporting to Richard Inman, portfolio manager at British Marine P&I.
He succeeds Sebastian Tjornelund, who held the role before his December appointment as head of marine underwriting for Asia.
O’Brien joins from NorthStandard, where he spent 11 years and served most recently as underwriting director in Singapore, overseeing underwriting across Asia and leading the development of the Club’s small-craft portfolio. He brings P&I experience across both brown and blue water segments, including time in London.
“Callum is a well-respected underwriter with longstanding relationships across the Asia market,” Inman said. “His appointment highlights the importance of the region to our P&I strategy and the progress we have made in building the British Marine portfolio, as the business marks its 150th year.”
The hire is the latest in a series of leadership moves within Asia, with the business earlier this month appointing Andy Tsui to lead corporate underwriting in HK and Macau and its People Risk unit for Asia. Other appointments so far in 2026 include Johnny Suen as head of property for Hong Kong, Mandy Chan as head of operational power generation and ESG, Chai Guan Lim as head of distribution for Malaysia, and Carles Tondo as head of property for Asia.
