Vincent Wang has been appointed Risk Engineer, Marine for Markel’s Underwriting Division at Lloyd’s China, effective immediately, the specialty insurer announced on Thursday.

Based in Shanghai, Wang brings more than 16 years of experience in marine operations, surveying and engineering consultancy. He spent more than 13 years with COSCO Shipping, progressing through the ranks to become a certified captain and later held roles at CCS-TM Surveying International and ABL Group.

Qianhai Hu, director of underwriting at Markel Underwriting Division at Lloyd’s China, said: “Vincent brings a rare combination of hands-on command at sea and technical survey expertise, having sailed as a certified Captain before moving into marine surveying and engineering.”

“That practical, on-the-water perspective is exactly what clients and brokers value when navigating today’s marine risks,” Hu added.

Wang’s appointment forms part of Markel’s recent efforts to expand its marine operations in the Asia Pacific region, naming Sarika Sagar Gadekar as a claims adjuster in Mumbai and Sjoerd Blomsma as marine risk engineerin Singapore.
