Sompo has appointed Hairolnizam Sapian as head of partnership development and management for Asia-Pacific, the business announced on Thursday.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Sapian joins the insurer’s APAC consumer distribution team and is tasked with advancing Sompo Asia’s consumer growth agenda by developing and managing strategic partnerships across the region.

He joins from Zurich Insurance, where he spent more than four years as head of partnership in Malaysia. He previously ran customer and distribution management for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and held broking roles at Jardine Lloyd Thompson, Sime Darby Lockton Insurance Brokers and MIT Insurance Brokers.

He brings more than 20 years of experience across the insurance value chain, with expertise in distribution, strategic partnerships and the delivery of business growth, Sompo said.

Sapian joins a consumer business Sompo has been building out in the region. The insurer named Daniel Lukas head of personal lines for Asia-Pacific in April, with Berjaya Sompo in Malaysia appointing Kuala Lumpur-based Michelle Siow as head of consumer insights and product strategy from 1 July.
