Arch Insurance Australia has promoted Andrew Whitlock to head of casualty, effective immediately, the company said on Tuesday.
Whitlock was most recently Northern Region casualty underwriting manager, a role he took up in January 2026 after joining from Chubb, where he was casualty segment leader in the Major Accounts Division. Previously he held broking roles at Brown & Brown in London.
Based in Sydney, Whitlock leads the team and oversees underwriting strategy and growth for Arch’s retail casualty portfolio across Australia. The portfolio covers primary and excess liability placements and has a core focus on product-led risks including manufacturing, wholesale, retail, importing and exporting.
He reports to Managing Director Dominic Brannigan and works with James Mecham, deputy chief underwriting officer for long tail lines and head of general casualty at Arch Insurance International.
“Andrew’s promotion is a well-deserved recognition of the impact he has made since joining Arch,” said Brannigan. “His contribution to the growth of our Northern Region portfolio has been significant, and he has demonstrated the leadership, commitment and commercial focus needed to take our business forward.”
Mecham said the appointment is a “positive step” for Arch’s casualty growth plans across its international platform, as it brings its Australian retail operations closer to its London Market wholesale team.
The promotion follows other hires at Arch Insurance Australia this year, including Arion Reuter as senior professional indemnity underwriter in June.
