Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has appointed Simon McMahon as partner to expand its credit and political risk business in Australia, the broker said on Monday.
Based in Sydney, McMahon brings more than 20 years of experience across banking and insurance. His career spans structured credit, trade finance and risk management roles at HSBC and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. He also held senior underwriting and management roles at Atradius and, most recently, a structured credit and surety broking role at Aon.
He joins the specialist broker’s credit and political risk team of more than 20 specialists, led by John Lentaigne in London, the broker said on LinkedIn. The appointment adds to SRG’s expansion in Australia, where it is building out its specialist capabilities and investing in talent development.
Last month, SRG launched a 12-week accelerated broking programme to develop its own talent rather than compete solely for experienced brokers. The programme targets Australian candidates with one to four years of experience in consulting, legal, audit or accounting roles.
SRG entered the country in February 2026, opening offices in Sydney and Melbourne with an initial focus on entertainment, media and sport. The broker added an employee benefits division in April under Travis Bailey and promoted Joanna Goh as partner and head of strategy and growth for Asia, effective 1 September.
