HDI Global is expanding its leadership team in Asia Pacific with two senior appointments: Haris Michaels will move to Singapore to take on an expanded regional role, while Stevan Bonic has been promoted to Underwriting Manager Engineering, Australasia.

Haris Michaels first joined the company in 2013, most recently taking on the role of Engineering Underwriting Manager for Australasia. He is set to relocate to Singapore from Sydney in Q3 2025, where he will focus on supporting clients across Southeast Asia. He brings over two decades of industry experience to his new role, having served in project engineering roles for firms like Laing O’Rourke and Structural Systems Limited prior to joining HDI.

Michaels will report to Mark Mackay, Hub Leader, Energy and Power for the MENA and APAC region.

Stevan Bonic is succeeding Michaels in leading the regional engineering and construction portfolio. He joined HDI in 2020, most recently serving as its Technical Underwriting Manager Engineering, Australasia. A practising engineer, Bonic also has extensive industry experience under his belt, taking on underwriting and senior roles at firms such as IAG, AIG, and CGU Insurance.

Expressing excitement about the role, Michaels said, Southeast Asia is a vibrant region full of opportunity, particularly in the power and energy space. As new technologies reshape the industry, clients need insurance partners who understand both the innovations and the evolving risks.

Commenting on his appointment, Bonic said, “Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the growth of a stable and diversified engineering portfolio. I’m proud to lead a team of exceptionally talented underwriters as we continue delivering innovative solutions in an evolving technological landscape”

Stefan Feldmann, Head of HDI Global Asia Pacific, welcomed the appointments, saying they [reflect] the depth of talent and experience across our Asia-Pacific team.”

The latest appointments follow key leadership changes announced in May. TaeHan Kim was named Underwriting Manager for Liability, North Asia, while Uwe Jürgen Sievers stepped down as Managing Director of the Japan branch on 31 July 2025, in a mutually agreed decision made at his own request for personal reasons. Casey Sandler assumed interim leadership of the branch.
