Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group and MSIG Asia have appointed Eric Schaap as Senior Vice President and Global Broker Engagement Manager, a newly created role designed to strengthen global broker partnerships and enhance market alignment.
Schaap brings a wealth of experience from the insurance and risk consulting industries, having founded RiskSpace.ai, co-founded rootsAI, and spent 20 years at Aon. He also brings considerable international insurance experience working across Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Based in MSIG’s Singapore regional office, Schaap will report to Keisuke Ema, General Manager of the International Business Department at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance in Tokyo, for his global responsibilities, and to Clemens Philippi, Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Asia, for regional matters.
Ema said brokers are key strategic partners in the company’s international growth journey, with global players driving about 50% of MSIG’s international business gross written premium. “By establishing this new global role, we aim to build stronger, data-driven partnerships that align our collective strengths across markets and deliver greater value to our clients and stakeholders,” Ema added.
The appointment forms another move across their regional operations. In September, MSIG Singapore appointed MSIG Specialty Marine as its underwriting agent to write Protection & Indemnity risks directly from Singapore, targeting the Asia-Pacific marine segment. In Oceania, the group announced a series of new executive appointments to support its next phase of growh across Australia and New Zealand.
