Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad has appointed Tan Chuan Lye as chairman, the insurer announced through a LinkedIn post on Friday.

Tan has more than 40 years of experience in auditing, banking, risk management and corporate governance. He began his career with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co., now KPMG, before spending 20 years in the banking sector leading internal audit and operational risk management across international banks.

He later rejoined KPMG Singapore as a risk consulting partner and also served as an adjunct associate professor at the National University of Singapore.

“With his extensive leadership experience and strong governance expertise, we look forward to his guidance as Berjaya Sompo continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable growth, sound governance and delivering greater value to our customers and stakeholders,” Sompo said.

The appointment follows a series of leadership appointments to Sompo’s regional APAC operations this year, including Daniel Lukas as head of personal lines, Maureen Ung as director, commercial distribution, and Sarah Lee as multinational network manager.
