HDFC ERGO General Insurance has elevated Samir Shah to the role of Deputy Managing Director as part of its senior management re-designation, the insurer announced in a LinkedIn post on 28 April.

Shah brings more than 35 years of overall professional experience, including 19 years in the general insurance sector. During his tenure at HDFC ERGO, he has played a key role in strengthening the company’s financial governance, compliance frameworks and institutional oversight, while also contributing to strategic planning initiatives.

The announcement follows the promotion of Parthanil Ghosh as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director in March. Ghosh is credited with playing a significant role in the strategic integrations and consolidation of acquired L&T General Insurance and Apollo Munich Health Insurance.

The promotions of both Shah and Ghosh took effect on 16 April.

The Mumbai-based general insurer congratulated Shah on his elevation and said it looks forward to his continued contribution to the company’s leadership team.

The recent leadership announcements have come at a time when HDFC ERGO, one of India’s large general insurers, is navigating a challenging growth environment. The insurer reported a 5% contraction in premiums in FY2026, while the performance of its peers, namely Bajaj Allianz and ICICI Lombard, as well as public‑sector insurers including United India, National Insurance, and Oriental Insurance, improved with single‑digit growth in the same period.
