HDI Global SE’s Brisbane branch has appointed Amiel Poonan as property underwriter, the company announced on Thursday.

Poonan joins HDI Global from Barrack Broking, where he most recently served as account manager for under a year.

He has four years of experience as an insurance broker, previously holding roles at PSC Insurance Group. Earlier in his career, he also worked for Youi Insurance.

Poonan has also worked with clients and insurers across a range of industries, focusing on mid-market property and casualty risks.

“He has a strong understanding of risk, the challenges brokers face, and the importance of delivering responsive, commercially focused insurance solutions,” the firm said in its announcement.

The announcement follows other recent appointments made by HDI Global across its APAC businesses. Viola Lee was hired as head of claims for its Hong Kong branch. James Zhan was recently hired as senior risk engineer in Hong Kong, while Diane Chong was named senior underwriter for downstream energy in Singapore.
