Sompo has appointed Maya Dongyoung Lee as Chief Operating Officer for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, with immediate effect. She joins Sompo after three and half years with Manulife Philippines, where she was serving as COO.

In her new role, Lee will be based in Singapore and oversee Sompo’s APAC operations, with a focus on operational excellence, transformation, project management, and the development of talent and capabilities in the region, Sompo said in its statement.

She joins the APAC executive team and with dual reporting lines to Daniel Englberger, Chief Operating Officer of Sompo International Holdings, and Kenneth Reilly, Chief Executive Officer of Insurance, APAC.

“Maya is an outstanding hire for Sompo,” commented Englberger on the appointment. “Her exceptional track record for leading organisational change at several global businesses makes her perfectly placed to develop and execute the next stage of the operations and transformation strategy in our APAC region.”

Reilly added, “Maya brings with her a wealth of global experience both from a consulting and insurance industry perspective. I am confident she will drive operational effectiveness and excellence, as well as process architecture governance across our entire APAC business.”
