Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad has appointed Ying Ying Lee as head of marine and aviation and regional product leader, the Malaysian insurer announced on Monday.

Lee joins after over 15 years at AIG, most recently serving as APAC lead for marine liability. She also had brief stints as head of marine underwriting at Berjaya Sompo and as marine and trade credit underwriting at Hong Leong Assurance Berhad.

With 24 years of experience in the general insurance industry, Lee brings expertise in marine insurance, underwriting and portfolio development across Southeast Asia.

Berjaya Sompo said Lee’s experience in building profitable marine liability and cargo portfolios, together with her technical underwriting expertise and market knowledge, would support the insurer’s growth ambitions.

“Ying Ying has also been a passionate mentor and advocate for underwriting excellence, helping to develop teams while fostering strong partnerships across the industry,” the company said.

The appointment comes days after Berjaya Sompo named Tan Chuan Lye as its chairman. Earlier this year, the insurer announced a series of regional hires, including the appointment of Daniel Lukas as head of personal lines, Maureen Ung as director, commercial distribution, and Sarah Lee as multinational network manager.
