Managing general agent (MGA) SALT has appointed Iain Sharples as Head of Underwriting, Marine, the company announced on LinkedIn.

Sharples first joined the Lloyd’s coverholder, which specialises in the Australian and New Zealand markets, in April 2023 and SALT credits him with leading growth in its liability portfolio while contributing to the underwriting management across the organisation.

In his new role, he will oversee all lines of Marine business and will be supported by Marie Nugent and Derek Leong on Hull and Richard Grant on Cargo, the MGA said in its announcement.

Before joining SALT, Sharples worked at Zurich Australia between 2016 and 2023 and, prior to that, he spent over 20 years with Thomas Miller.
