Sean Chen has been announced as the new CEO of Starr Singapore, effective from August 28th. Chen takes over the reins from Phil Finley, who has moved to Thailand as CEO of Starr Thailand. Finley’s role is now to oversee the company’s expansion in Thailand, while still steering the Asia operations of Starr as President, Asia Pacific Region.

Chen is a veteran of Starr Insurance, with a 14-year tenure at the global conglomerate. At Starr, he has held various key roles, including the regional manager for Korea, Taiwan, and Japan for the property, energy and construction portfolios.

Chen’s experience spans 25 years in underwriting and client relations, ranging across both the insurance carrier and broker sides of the business, at Tokio Marine Kiln, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Allianz , and AON.

In a statement, Maurice R. Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of Starr Insurance, said, “We’re fortunate to have an executive of Sean’s caliber, with extensive underwriting experience, to help us grow our presence in Asia.” He also emphasised that Chen’s appointment reinforces Starr’s ethos as a platform where individuals can grow along with the company.
