Sompo has announced the promotion of Hideo Nakano to the newly created position of Head of Japanese Interest Accounts (JIA) for APAC, effective from 1 April 2024, the company said in a LinkedIn statement.

Nakano has been serving as Chief Executive Officer of PGA Sompo in the Philippines and will now be based in Singapore as part of the APAC regional executive team.

Nakano is tasked with leading the JIA teams across the APAC region and his responsibilities include driving strategy, profitable growth, and portfolio oprtimisation, the company said in its announcement.

In his new role, Nakano will report directly to Kenneth Reilly, CEO of Insurance, Asia Pacific, and will also have a matrix reporting line into the APAC Commercial Head of Distribution, Alasdair Walker, who joined Sompo, from Allianz Commercial, last year.

Nakano brings nearly three decades of experience within Sompo to his new role, having held several leadership positions across Japan, Indonesia, Belgium, and Vietnam before his tenure in the Philippines as CEO of PGA Sompo.
