Sompo taps AIG’s Bill Zhang as President, Consumer Lines for APAC

Zhang moves after 12 years with AIG and will relocate to Singapore for the new role.

Sompo on Thursday announced Bill Zhang’s appointment as President of Consumer Lines for Asia Pacific, effective 7 August 2024.

Zhang joins from AIG, where he worked for more than 12 years, most recently as Head of the SME and the Accident & Health portfolio in Japan.

He will relocate from Tokyo to Singapore for the new role and report to Kenneth Reilly, Chief Executive Officer of Insurance for APAC.

In his new role, Zhang will lead the Consumer Lines strategy and operating model, focusing on developing talent and capabilities across the region, Sompo said in a media release.

“I am excited to welcome Bill to the APAC leadership team,” Reilly commented. “With his technical expertise and diverse knowledge in various customer segments across multiple markets, I am confident that Bill will further impel our financial performance and differentiated offerings to our policyholders.”

Zhang began his career at Aon in 2006 as an Actuarial Analyst in Toronto before moving to Aviva in 2009. He moved from Canada to join AIG in Singapore in 2012 as Head of Pricing Actuary, before moving with the business to Japan as Vice President and Head of SME Strategy & Management in 2015.
