Howden has appointed Hugo Thornhill as head of renewable energy for Asia Pacific, the company announced on LinkedIn on 3 February.

Thornhill has been with Howden for more than two years and most recently served as a divisional director in the broker’s London office. He brings extensive industry experience with expertise in power and renewables. Before joining Howden, he worked for insurance brokers such as Marsh and JLT Specialty.

Based in Singapore, Thornhill will help build out Howden’s renewable energy platform across the region, with a focus on strengthening local expertise and supporting clients as project pipelines expand and risk profiles evolve. Commenting on his appointment, Thornhill said, “Investment in Asia’s renewable energy sector continues to gain momentum, and I’m excited to work with clients, colleagues, and insurers across Asia-Pacific.”

The hire follows a run of senior appointments by Howden across the region, including naming Cathryn Neo as head of contingent and litigation risks, Asia; Leigh Dauncey as regional employee benefits director for IMEA; and Jamie Wan from Aon as senior director, M&A, Asia.

Howden has also recently named Tim Hewitt as head of Japan international solutions and strategy. In Hong Kong, the broker also announced leadership moves, including Cyrus Cheung, Jan Ng, Michael Chan and Flora Yip.
