Berkley Insurance Asia has promoted Kenneth Cheong to head of marine, Asia, effective 1 April 2026, succeeding Ju-Ann Lee, who is moving into a newly created senior advisory and talent development leader role within the organisation, according to a LinkedIn post by the company on Monday.

Cheong has been with Berkley Insurance Asia since September 2025, when he joined as deputy head of marine, Asia. He brings more than a decade of marine underwriting experience, having previously spent more than 11 years at HDI Global SE in Singapore, where he served as underwriting manager for marine cargo and as an underwriter.

Lee has been with Berkley Insurance Asia for over a decade and has extensive industry experience. Prior to joining Berkley, she held senior roles in marine and commercial lines management at Chubb. She also served as marine manager and specialty lines manager at ACE Insurance.

“Kenneth’s appointment reflects the calibre of team Ju-Ann has built. His expertise, market relationships and leadership make him the natural choice to lead the franchise into its next chapter,” Berkley said in its announcement.

The leadership change comes as Berkley’s wider shareholder base has also seen a notable development, with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance recently completing the acquisition of a 15% stake in W. R. Berkley Corporation as part of a strategic investment in the global specialty insurance market.
