Allianz Trade has appointed Daf Owen to the newly created role of regional surety business development director for Asia Pacific, effective 1 August 2026, the business announced on Wednesday.

Owen is based in Hong Kong and reports to Chris Markesteijn, Regional Head of Surety & Guarantees Asia Pacific.

He joins the regional team from Allianz Trade in Australia, where he spent three years as senior underwriter. He brings more than 30 years of experience in insurance and banking across the UK and Australia, including senior roles at Aon, Atradius, and HSBC.

“Daf brings a rare combination of underwriting, broking and banking experience to this role, built over three decades in the industry,” Markesteijn said. “He is highly qualified, well respected in the market, and has delivered strong results consistently for our Surety business in Australia.”

The appointment follows a series of senior personnel moves at Allianz Trade across the region in 2026. Last month, the insurer named Ricky Hung as head of distribution for Hong Kong. In China, the business appointed Tian “Bruce” Lan as commercial director in April. Earlier in the year, it promoted Sandy Liu to regional head of its China desk and elevated Wee Lee Quah to Asia Pacific chief operations officer.
