Sun Life has appointed Julian Yu as chief actuary for Vietnam operations, the global insurer announced via LinkedIn on Wednesday.
Yu transitions from Sun Life Hong Kong, where he served as chief product officer for the past year. He previously served as chief financial actuary in Hong Kong. Previously in his career, Yu has worked at John Hancock, Manulife and WTW.
“With extensive experience spanning actuarial, finance, risk management, and product leadership at both market and regional levels, Julian will lead our actuarial, risk and product development functions,” Sun Life said.
The transition comes as the insurer strengthens its leadership in Vietnam. The company recently appointed Budi Darmawan as chief agency officer, while Lay Hoon Tan took over as chief executive officer last year.
In Asia, Sun Life recently appointed Lee Sarkin as vice president, for data and AI. Sarkin joins from Munich Re and will assume the role from 1 September.
Sun Life has reported continued growth momentum in Asia, with its new business contractual service margin increasing further in the first quarter of 2026, supported by continued sales growth in Hong Kong.
