Miller Insurance Services has onboarded Hiroaki Wakamatsu as business development and credit insurance specialist in Japan, the (re)insurance broker said on Monday.
Wakamatsu joins Miller Japan’s non-marine business, working alongside Tokinori Kono, head of non-marine broking, Japan, across multiple lines of business including credit, surety and political risk.
He brings extensive experience in trade credit and surety in Japan, having previously worked in multiple roles at Tokio Marine, and most recently as business development manager at Coface, Japan.
Wakamatsu’s appointment expands Miller’s talent pool in Japan, where the London-based broker has been expanding its specialty offering since taking over Lead Insurance Services.
Miller acquired Lead in 2022, following a 25-year relationship with the business. Founded in 1994, Lead is a brokerage firm traditionally focused on marine insurance. In 2024, Miller started to build out its non-marine business in the country, appointing Kazuhiko Shinkai and Satoshi Watanabe to lead the initiative.
In July last year, the specialist broker launched a marine team in Korea to expand its P&C, affinity, political risk, sports and entertainment, and cyber lines in the country.
Despite its recent entry into the markets, Miller’s presence has grown quickly in both regions, according to Ron Whyte, Miller’s head of Asia, who told (Re)in Asia that the broker is exploring new opportunities to drive continued growth in the countries.
