AXA XL has appointed Dr. Thomas Götting as chief client and distribution officer for APAC and Europe, effective 1 October, as it looks to capture growth opportunities across Europe, Asia and Australia, the insurer announced on Thursday.
Götting has been with the business since 2021, most recently serving as deputy country manager and head of distribution for Germany. Before that, he worked for XL Catlin as country manager for Germany. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles with credit insurance specialists Coface and Atradius.
He brings nearly three decades of commercial insurance experience to the role, including more than 20 years in senior client and distribution positions.
Based in Cologne, Germany, Götting will lead the insurer’s client and distribution strategy across Europe, Asia and Australia, working closely with local teams throughout the region. He will report to Xavier Veyry, CEO of APAC and Europe, and Manuel Meier, chief client officer.
Commenting on the appointment, Veyry said: “We see opportunities for profitable growth across Europe, Asia and Australia, particularly by supporting businesses investing in digital and energy infrastructure, while selectively expanding our specialty and mid-market portfolios.”
“Thomas’s appointment will help us deepen our relationships with clients and brokers and bring AXA XL’s expertise to more businesses across the region.”
Meier said Götting would play a key role in advancing the insurer’s client-focused strategy and strengthening relationships across the region.
“A key priority will be to strengthen our collaboration with AXA’s general insurance entities to bring AXA XL’s breadth of expertise to more businesses,” he said.
He added that AXA XL aims to develop its offering beyond traditional risk transfer by expanding risk advisory and loss prevention services.
Until a successor is appointed, Götting will continue to serve as head of distribution for Germany on an interim basis.
In Asia, AXA XL has also made leadership changes in recent months, including the promotion of Rob Elliott to underwriting manager for property and the appointment of Markus Posberg as chief underwriting officer for property, construction and energy across APAC and Europe earlier in September.
