Markel has appointed Scott Luxford as Head of Distribution and MGA Strategy, Australia, effective immediately, the specialty insurer announced in a media release on October 10.
Sydney-based Luxford joins from Harland Green, where he was Head of Distribution and part of the founding team. In his new role, he reports to Rory Morison, Markel’s Managing Director for Australia.
He previously served as Executive Director of 360 Underwriting, where he founded and grew the business into an established Financial Lines underwriting agency. He has also held senior leadership roles at QBE, Zurich, Allianz, and ACE (now Chubb).
Morison welcomed Luxford to the team, noting his “expertise will be central to strengthening Markel’s long-term partnerships with both brokers and MGAs,” while highlighting his experience in building and leading distribution teams across the Australian market.
The appointment continues Markel’s expansion in Australia, following the hire of Tim Wills from Tokio Marine Kiln as Head of Marine and Clarice Francis’ move from Hiscox as Operations Manager for War and Terrorism last month.
