American International Group (AIG) Japan has appointed Koki Umeda as vice chairman, effective 1 July, according to a LinkedIn post by AIG Japan Holdings president and CEO James Nash, suceeding Hirofumi Shimoyama, who will transition to the role of senior advisor.
Umeda brings more than 30 years of global insurance experience, with leadership experience across Japan, the Americas and Europe. Commenting on the appointment, Nash said Umeda’s global experience and perspective would support the company’s next phase of growth.
Shimoyama will continue to support AIG Japan in an advisory role after helping lead changes across the business. Nash credited Shimoyama with playing a key role in transforming AIG Japan’s operations and building its foundation for future growth. “Since joining AIG, he has been instrumental in transforming our business and building a strong foundation for the future,” he said.
The announcement follows a series of recent appointments announced by AIG earlier this month, including Tilden Goh being named head of energy for Asia-Pacific, Igor Chichkan joining the insurer’s Asia-Pacific financial lines team as regional underwriting manager, as well as Carmen Ho rejoining AIG’s Hong Kong casualty team as major account lead and Evelyn Li being promoted to corporate lead.
