Canopius has appointed Ray Wong as Energy Underwriter, effective September 4 2025, the specialty (re)insurer announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Based in Singapore, Wong will join the Asia-Pacific Energy team and report to Johnny Kim, Head of Energy and Construction for APAC.

He brings 14 years of underwriting experience, having worked at Lancashire Insurance Company (UK) Limited, where he specialised in offshore and onshore upstream energy portfolios, covering both construction and operational risks. His background includes developing broker relationships and contributing to consistent underwriting performance across global energy markets.

Commenting on the hire, Kim said, “Ray’s technical depth and commercial mindset make him an excellent addition to our Energy team. His track record in underwriting complex energy risks, combined with his experience in renewable energy, will strengthen our capabilities and support our growth ambitions across APAC.”

Wong’s appointment follows Canopius’ recent hire of Jinnan Tang as APAC Casualty Treaty Underwriter from MS Amlin Singapore, as the group continues to build out its regional underwriting bench strength.
