Sun Life has opened a second Hoops + Health rooftop basketball court in Hong Kong, partnering with sport-for-social-change foundation Beyond Sport to expand its youth wellness programme at Kwai Fong Plaza.
The insurer said the refurbished, Sun Life-branded court is intended to be a free, accessible community space that uses basketball to support physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection, with local partners involved in programming and outreach.
“Hoops + Health was created to go beyond traditional health education, using basketball as an inspiring way to encourage young people to lead healthier lives,” Adley Low, chief client and marketing officer at Sun Life Hong Kong, said at the opening ceremony.
Beyond Sport’s director of programmes, Adam Burgess, said: “Safe and accessible spaces are essential for young people to thrive,” adding that the Kwai Fong Plaza site is designed to be “a hub for wellbeing, connection and opportunity.”
The Kwai Fong Plaza site follows the launch of a first Hoops + Health rooftop court at Wah Sum Shopping Centre in Fanling in 2024, while a regular youth programme began in early 2026 with InspiringHK Sports Foundation and the Basketball Association of Hong Kong, China.
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups will begin hosting the programme at the new Kwai Fong court next month as the initiative scales in the city alongside its wider sport and community activities, according to Sun Life.
Hoops + Health launched in 2023 and is implemented in six markets — Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam — and has reached 48,327 people across Asia.
