MSIG Hong Kong has appointed Billy Wong as chief underwriting officer, effective 2 Sep 2026, the insurer announced on Wednesday.

In his new role, he will lead the company’s underwriting department and specialty lines.

He joins from AXA Group, where he has been chief underwriting officer for general insurance at AXA Hong Kong and Macau. Previous roles there include P&C technical underwriting director and head of P&C technical underwriting, and head of property underwriting for Greater China at AXA XL.

“Billy brings nearly two decades of insurance expertise across retail and commercial lines, with extensive experience in underwriting, portfolio management, pricing, reinsurance, and product development,” MSIG said in its announcement on LinkedIn. “Throughout his career, he has successfully led teams, strengthened underwriting disciplines, and delivered sustainable business growth across Hong Kong and Greater China.”

Before AXA, Wong spent close to five years at Zurich Insurance as head of property underwriting for global corporate and commercial insurance, and three years at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty as a senior underwriter in corporate property.

The appointment follows a series of senior changes at the group. MSIG Hong Kong named Masanori Ishibashi deputy chief executive from April, while Ronak Shah will take over as MSIG Asia regional chief executive on 1 October.

The Hong Kong unit reported a claims settlement ratio of 94.7% for 2025, its fifth consecutive annual rise.
