Swiss Re has named Stephen Abrokwah as the new Head of Life & Health (L&H) Japan, effective 1 Oct 2025, pending regulatory and visa approvals.

Abrokwah will start his transition into the role in September and will relocate to Tokyo once approvals are complete.

Abrokwah joins from Swiss Re’s US L&H business, where he served as a key account manager for US clients and several global asset intensive business partners.

He first joined Swiss Re in 2013 as a marketing actuary and previously worked at PwC and Enterprise Life Assurance, operating out of Ghana. Abrokwah is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst, and serves as president and board chair of the International Association of Black Actuaries.

Speaking on the appointment, Daisy Ning, Head L&H Re APAC ex China, said that Abrokwah’s appointment reflects the reinsurer’s “commitment to bringing the best of Swiss Re’s global expertise to our key markets in Asia.”

“His deep technical knowledge, client-centric mindset, and proven leadership will be great assets to our clients and teams in Japan,” Ning added.

In addition to Abrokwah’s appointment, Swiss Re also named Kenichi Kasai as Head L&H Client Markets Japan.

“I’m equally pleased to recognise Kenichi Kasai’s expanded role as Head of L&H Client Markets Japan,” said Ning. “His strong local relationships and leadership have been instrumental, and together with Stephen, I’m confident they will continue strengthening our position and partnerships in this important market.”
