Lockton has appointed Martin Allain as head of wholesale within its regional placement team in Asia, the broker announced on Friday.

He reports to Piers Hughes, head of placement – Asia.

Allain returns to the insurance industry after a brief retirement. Before joining Lockton, Allain served as managing director for facultative business, Asia Pacific, at THB Singapore, where he oversaw reinsurance, wholesale and direct client placements. He later joined Howden’s wholesale broking team in Singapore.

He also worked for Reinsurance Australia Corporation and Marsh UK earlier in his career.

Allain brings international experience across Europe, North America, Australia and Asia, with expertise across a wide range of specialty lines. Particularly, he is equipped with technical knowledge in mining, heavy industry, downstream energy, and power & utilities.

Commenting on the appointment, Hughes said Allain’s “global experience, technical strength, and on‑the‑ground understanding of the Asian market will further strengthen our ability to deliver differentiated placement strategies and exceptional results for our clients.”

The announcement follows a series of senior hires by Lockton in the region. Earlier this month, the broker named Alberto Ferriolo as regional growth leader for its Marine & Transportation business in Asia. It also appointed Sandra Lee as chief growth officer – risk solutions, Asia, Yuman Chan as chief growth officer – people solutions, Asia, Nicholas Lee as CEO designate of Malaysia, and Jaideep (Jay) Sharma as CEO of India.
