Manulife Hong Kong and Macau has appointed Carrie Tong as chief distribution officer effective immediately, the insurer announced on Wednesday. She succeeds Ivan Chan, who is stepping down to pursue external opportunities.
Tong has been with Manulife since 2015 and has held leadership positions across the insurer’s Asia business, strategy and transformation functions in Hong Kong, and distribution operations in Macau. She most recently served as Chief Operations Officer, a role she assumed in March 2023.
Prior to joining Manulife, Tong has held various positions at The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Bain & Company, and WTW.

The appointment comes amid a series of key changes for Manulife Hong Kong and Macau. Kee himself was appointed CEO in May, succeeding Patrick Graham, who has relocated to take on the role of President and CEO for Canada. The insurer also named Lilian Ng as an independent non-executive board director last month.
The appointments follow strong performance in the region, with Manulife Asia generating US$585m of new business CSM, up 15%, while NBV rose 15% to US$533m in Q1. The business is also eyeing India as a growth market, following the joint venture announced in June between Manulife and Mahindra, which will mark the insurer’s entry into the fast-growing insurance market.
