Aon has appointed Joe Liang as executive chairman of Greater China for its Reinsurance business, effective immediately, the global broker said on Monday.
Liang will work from Hong Kong and report to Rupert Moore, CEO of Asia Pacific for Reinsurance at Aon. He has more than 34 years of industry experience and has served in leadership roles across China and the United States.
“Joe brings a unique combination of insurance, reinsurance, actuarial and technology experience that will help strengthen our ability to serve clients across Greater China,” said Moore. “His leadership will help us continue delivering the insights, capabilities and solutions that clients need to make better decisions and pursue growth opportunities with confidence.”
Before joining Aon, Liang held senior positions across underwriting, reinsurance, risk management and actuarial functions, including executive roles at Ping An P&C and SAIC Insurance Limited. He is also a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a fellow of the Chinese Actuarial Society.
His appointment adds to a run of notable hires in Aon’s Asia Pacific reinsurance business this year. This month, the broker named Matthew Chae as growth leader for life and health re in Korea and Metat Sae-Jan as head of the same line in Thailand. Those hires followed Chin Fong Teh as chief of staff for the region in June, Jukgrid Treesuttamas as senior adviser for Thailand in April and George Attard as global head of analytics for Reinsurance Solutions in March.
Last week, the wider Aon business named Sean Deehan as chief executive of its strategy and technology group for Asia Pacific.
